Wind energy provides more than just environmental benefits. This natural and inexhaustible resource can be harnessed to provide the Sheffield community with a wealth of economic benefits—including over $500,000 in revenues annually.

  • Revenue for the community: $11 million in payments to the town of Sheffield over 20 years can be used to lower taxes, improve schools, maintain roads and enhance services.
  • Land leased from local owners: Sheffield Wind is sited on timberlands, offering additional income for local landowners, allowing long-term sustainable forest management while preserving open space.
  • More jobs for residents: The project will hire locally whenever possible, providing over 200 construction, operations, and maintenance employment opportunities.
  • Use of local services: Approximately $25 million will be funneled to Vermont’s economy during development and construction through the use of personnel, gravel, trucking, lodging, gas and food to benefit local retailers and area residents.
  • Local, sustainable energy: Sheffield Wind will provide energy for Vermont utilities at competitive market rates.
  • Reduced dependence on costly fuels: Wind energy helps reduce dependence on costly fossil fuel imports, strengthens the diversity of the nation’s energy supply, and enhances America’s energy independence.
